Welcome to the official website of the Andhra Maha Sabha of South Africa. The Andhra Maha Sabha of South Africa (AMSSA) is a Non-Profit Organisation registered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development with the registration number 004-698NPO. AMSSA was formed on 14 May 1931 to cater for all the Social, Cultural, Spiritual and Educational needs of the Telugu-speaking peoples of South Africa. It is the only National body representing the Andhra people. The following are the aims and objectives of AMSSA:

  • To promote, preserve and propagate the educational, social, spiritual and physical advancement of the people of the Republic of South Africa and in particular the Andhra Community.
  • To encourage the study of Hinduism and the philosophy our religion
  • To encourage and foster the study of culture, language, literature, song, music, dance and in particular Telugu.
  • To establish branch Sabhas.
  • To organise and establish libraries and resource centres for the use and benefit of its members and the general public.
  • To publish periodicals, books, newspapers, etc in Telugu and English.
  • To establish a bursary fund to promote the study of the Telugu language and Andhra culture.
  • To organise conventions, lectures, workshops, seminars, symposia and conferences to further the aims and objectives of AMSSA.
  • To raise funds to promote the aims and objectives of AMSSA.
  • To attend to all such matters as may be necessary or expedite to further the interest of AMSSA.

Vision

To preserve, promote and propagate the Telugu language and Andhra Culture in South Africa and internationally and to strive for a multi-cultural South African society in a non-racial democratic South African as espoused in our South African Constitution. To dream of a just, equitable, fair and developed society for all South Africans where cultural diversity is respected. Unity in Diversity.
